Procure IT fair Petition
Dear Vice Chancellor,
Every fifth personal computer is purchased by public institutions. Social criteria hardly play a role in the procurement process and it is mainly the price that is taken into consideration.
The working conditions in IT factories in producer countries such as China and Malaysia are to a great extent inhumane. Workers are exposed to health risks and have to work up to 12 hours a day, seven days a week. They are regularly tricked out of parts of their salary and social benefits.
Public Institutions, such as your University, have to consider social criteria in the procurement process. This would be an important step towards reducing poverty and improving the working conditions in the producer countries.
It is time to incorporate social criteria into the procurement process!
Therefore I support the demands of Procure IT fair and petition you
Yours, …
- to call for the inclusion of social criteria by the central Procurement Institutions in the procurement process.
- to assert a resolution at your University, ensuring social responsibility in the procurement of computers.
