21-01-2010 Digitimes: Apple supplier says strike has ended

Taiwan-based LCD and touch panel maker Wintek has maintained that a strike by workers at its Suzhou plant in China has been resolved, with production unaffected.

The workers went on a strike on January 15 after believing they would not be receiving Lunar New Year bonuses, the company said in a filing with the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE). It said the strike ended after the company promised them bonuses.

Wintek maintained that the plant's production and capacity were unaffected by the strike. The panel maker did not provide further details of the incident.

But media reports from China indicated that some of the plant's equipment was vandalized during the strike and police had to be called in to disperse the protesting workers.

Wintek is a panel supplier for Apple, according to industry sources.
